Family has always been very important to Hope. The family that raised her in childhood, the family she and her faithmate created together, the family that grew from their love – all these people are very important to Hope.
When Hope was in her mid 40s she was in the heyday of her writing career. She wrote for publications and she wrote for herself. She also wrote many poems for her family, especially the children.
It is interesting now to look back at these little children through the words in Mom’s poems and the heart of a grandmother and to see how they have grown into admirable adults. Each of them contributing members of society, they have fulfilled Hope’s dreams by becoming exactly who they were meant to be.
Following is a poem about the first grandchild, Jeffrey Scott Hostettler. At 42, Jeff is now a single father with three beautiful daughters. As her grandson, Hope loves him unconditionally and completely; as a man, she admires and respects him. He has become a man of character just as Hope anticipated.
You are One Grand Son
But more than that, you are
Our Grand Son.
But you are even more than that … you are
Our very Special Star
From here to Zanzibar,
We have the dream
For your boundless stream!
Born on a date of fame*
We have hopes for your own name!
But do not forget who you are to be to Jeff!
It will always be YOU
Who must live with YOU
Do what you can
To make yourself a man
That you can stand,
To live your life with.
